Siren Pirgos Villa / Skopelos island Greece
The castle like building sits at the edge of a peninsula called Nisi (island) because one can reach the area only through a single country road. There are cliffs all around with marvelous rocks and caves where mediterranean seals Monachus Monachus are still use to nest.
The hillsides are covered with olive groves and forest and herds of goats roam around. The views are striking down to Glysteri beach with its turquoise blue waters. This beach is about a 10 minute drive from the house and there is a restaurant at the waters' edge, which is open from mid-May to mid-September.
Pyrgos is ideal for trekkers, the area being full of small roads and trails in the surrounding hillsides. There is a 10' trail leading to the rocky beach underneath the house where one may swim to the wild sea caves or spend some time fishing.
The spectacular scenery was used in 2007 for the Mamma Mia film with Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Strip while they rested in the house..

Pyrgos is a very unusual house, set on a rocky promontory jutting out into the sea on the same coast as Skopelos town. It has breathtaking views for miles up the ''wild'' northern side of the island to the left, the mountains and monasteries to the right and a panoramic sea view straight ahead towards the neighboring island of Alonissos and the National Marine Park of Greece.
The house itself has been designed by the Kosmas couple to look like a medieval castle which the archaeologists say that existed in this area overlooking the boats' passage throughout the islands and appears to have been guarding the nearby town for centuries. It's built of local stone. The pool is ideally situated at the edge of the property toward the sea giving it outstanding views and looking as if it ''blends'' into the waters with its twin mosaic dolphins made by Vasso Kosma.
Both owners are local artists and their imagination is evidenced by their creations scattered about the property. Near the pool is an iron sculpture on a huge stone block and at the area below the house there is a brick built pyramid and an "altar" table both created by Spyros Kosmas. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy these stunning views and lots of room for sitting or lounging in the sun on the terrace surrounding the pool.
This private spot is ideal for nature lovers who want to get away from the hectic pace of life and really feel like they've gone back in time. With the sun rising in front of the house, peeking over the mountaintops of Alonissos, the view is truly inspiring.
The main door opens into the lower floor of an open -plan room which comprises the spacious living room/kitchen fireplace area with hand crafted by the owner Spyros Kosmas furniture, doors, magnificent windows and a decorative wood burning antique-style stove.
One of the first things you notice when stepping into this high-ceilinged room, are the black and white checked floor tiles and the amazing mural of winged winds and clouds painted on the ceiling by the owner Vasso Kosma according to the Greek mythology. There is a large dining table, built-in sofa seating under the windows and several oil lamps and candelabras hanging on the stone walls, which add a touch of the olden days.
The octagonal shape of the building looking eastward is carried through to the inside with each sea-facing side boasting a tall window with a stained glass arch at the top. To the rear of the room is WC/shower room and a stairway leading to the upper gallery, which is supported by a huge beam of wood and has two sleeping areas- one with a double and one with two single beds. Both are open to the living room underneath with a sliding door between them. The very old wardrobe has still the smell of cypress wood it's made of.
The second bedroom with two single beds is in a separate stone building, tunnel shaped and with unique cave-painting style chalk drawings painted by Vasso on the ceiling, which blend with the rest of the castle. It is comfortably furnished with a wooden secretary as if inspiring the writer to his creations. There is an en-suite WC/shower room and the same astonishing views of pool and sea.
A back door to Pyrgos with its huge iron old lock, leads out to a pleasant outdoor dining area with barbeque, sink and dining table. On the northern side of the house there is a stone stairway leading through a little bridge to the spacious roof terrace with its ramparts framing a 360' degree view of the sea in front and the hills at the back. Both buildings are equipped with air-conditioning.
At the slope in the back of Pyrgos and at the perimeter of the estate the owners have 400 cypress trees planted.
