Velanio Beach description

If you walk across the beach at Stafylos and follow the footpath on the hill, you will find yourself at a second beach, Velanio, which is worth visiting, despite the walking distance. Velanio is the only beach on Skopelos where someone can bathe in the nude (of course and at other areas of the island but velanio beach has declared as a nudist beach), directly after the first rock that separates the shore –in a way.
On the right side of the beach there is a wonderful cave, while at its edge you will find water dripping from the rocks – a sign that there were baths here in the Roman years (“Valaneion” in ancient Greek).
The particular detail is that at the edge of the beach –usually when the sun goes and the bathers are few- free-grazing goats come down to the beach to drink water from the sea .
Update 2017. From Summer 2017 an organised beach bar will be available in the first part of the beach.
